Job description

As a Consultant MRI Software Engineer, you will bring your software engineering expertise to different R&D environments and projects related to MRI systems and medical imaging. Your projects may vary from developing software for specific MRI subsystems and integrating software with hardware to solving complex technical challenges or contributing to the development of complete MRI systems. You will work across the software development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through development, integration, testing, troubleshooting and system handover. As a consultant, you are expected to quickly understand new technical environments, work effectively with different teams and take ownership of your topics with a high degree of independence. Over time, you will work with different clients and apply your MRI expertise to a variety of software and system-level challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support different clients and R&D projects involving MRI systems and medical imaging technology.
  • Develop, integrate and test software for MRI systems and subsystems.
  • Translate system and functional requirements into software requirements and practical technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain software for areas such as MRI system control, data acquisition, communication, diagnostics, imaging or user interfaces.
  • Support the integration of software with MRI hardware, electronics and other system components.
  • Perform debugging, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis at software and system level.
  • Design and execute software and system-level tests.
  • Support the development and integration of new MRI functionalities and prototypes.
  • Work across interfaces between software, electronics, mechanical and systems engineering.
  • Contribute to verification and validation activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions and engineering decision-making.
  • Adapt quickly to different clients, projects, technical environments and ways of working.
  • Take ownership of technical topics and proactively determine the actions, stakeholders and resources required to move them forward.
  • Create and maintain software specifications, test documentation and other technical documentation.
  • Support system integration, commissioning and technical handover.
  • Communicate technical topics effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional experience working with MRI systems or MRI-related technology — this is a must-have.
  • Hands-on experience developing, integrating, testing or troubleshooting software within MRI equipment or systems.
  • Strong programming experience in C/C++, Python and/or other relevant programming languages.
  • Experience with software-hardware integration in complex technical systems.
  • Understanding of MRI software and/or system functionality, such as system control, data acquisition, imaging, reconstruction, signal processing or related applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D environments.
  • Comfortable working hands-on with complex equipment, prototypes and test setups.
  • Able to quickly understand unfamiliar systems and identify what is required to solve a technical problem.
  • Self-propelling and able to work independently: you take ownership, define next steps and drive technical topics forward without requiring detailed instructions.
  • Comfortable working across different clients, teams and projects in a consultancy environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a structured, solution-oriented approach.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.

Case study: Depending on the position, we may ask you to take a test. This could be a role play, a technical assessment, a problem-solving scenario, etc.
