Mission Context

You will join the Early Research, Chemistry Hub. The team’s mission is to provide high‑quality operational support to researchers so they can focus fully on science. You will act as a key interface between:

 

  • Researchers

  • Engineering / Global Engineering

  • Facilities & Utilities (Beltech)

  • IT

  • External suppliers and contractors

 

This position is opened due to:

 

  • A high number of infrastructure projects in chemistry buildings

  • The need to ensure operational continuity (backup when the main internal contact is absent 1 day/week)

  • A significant Safety backlog to be addressed

 

The environment is high‑risk chemical, including solvents, CMR substances, pressure systems, exothermic reactions, PED, HVAC, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support – Chemistry Buildings (R4, R5, R7)

  • Provide day‑to‑day operational support to research teams in chemistry buildings

  • Act as first point of contact for operational and technical issues on site

  • Ensure research continuity while infrastructure works are ongoing

 

Coordination of Infrastructure Projects

  • Coordinate and follow up infrastructure projects in chemistry buildings

  • Manage interfaces between researchers, Engineering, Facilities, IT and suppliers

  • Follow project planning and constraints, ensuring minimal impact on research activities

 

Incident & Technical Issue Management

  • Manage daily incidents and technical issues (equipment, utilities, infrastructure)

  • Coordinate troubleshooting with Engineering, Facilities and external contractors

  • Escalate critical issues and ensure timely resolution

 

Risk Analysis & Work Permits

  • Perform and/or coordinate risk analyses prior to interventions

  • Prepare and manage work permits using internal templates and procedures

  • Ensure compliance with internal safety standards and regulatory requirements

 

Safety Backlog Reduction

  • Actively contribute to reducing the Safety backlog

  • Implement actions following incidents, audits, CPPT visits and risk analyses

  • Follow up corrective and preventive actions with stakeholders

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives

  • Propose pragmatic solutions to improve safety, reliability and efficiency of operations

  • Contribute to standardization and documentation of best practices

 

Typical Day

  • Strong on‑site presence in chemistry buildings (R4, R5, R7)

  • Daily interactions with researchers to address operational and safety issues

  • Coordination with suppliers and contractors for equipment installation and maintenance

  • Preparation and validation of risk assessments and work permits before interventions

  • Regular coordination with Engineering and Facilities/Beltech teams

  • Management of several topics in parallel (incidents, projects, maintenance, safety actions)

  • Handling urgent and sometimes stressful situations while remaining calm and solution‑oriented

 

Profile Requirements

Must Have

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent

  • 4–6 years of experience (medior) in a relevant environment

  • Experience in at least one of the following:

    • Chemical / pharmaceutical / CMC / development / production environments

    • Research or production chemistry buildings

 

Technical & Safety Skills

  • Strong and proven knowledge of chemical risks (non‑negotiable)

    • HVAC systems, pressure cascades, air renewal rates

    • PED, piping, gas detection systems

    • Electrical and utilities systems

      Solid understanding of infrastructure and technical systems, including:

  • Experience with risk analysis and work permit processes

  • Ability to manage critical and emergency situations in a high‑risk environment

 

Languages

  • French: fluent (≈80% of daily interactions) mandatory

  • English: strong technical level (documentation, procedures, communication with non‑French speakers)

 

Soft Skills

  • Rapid autonomy and strong ownership of topics

  • Hands‑on, pragmatic and solution‑driven

  • Stress‑resilient, able to remain calm under pressure and in emergencies

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Generalist mindset, comfortable interacting with multiple technical experts

 

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a chemistry research environment (flexible)

  • Previous exposure to processes and ways of working

  • Experience in Seveso‑type or other high‑risk industrial environments

  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset (Lean, Kaizen, etc.)
