Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Senior Design Manager to join our team in Toronto. (Hybrid  3 days in the office) This is a high-impact role within the Ontario Line / RSSOM project, one of the most significant transit expansions in North America.

This role must have a strong civil and building background to support a major rail infrastructure project in Ontario. Also, it will be focused on comprehensive design review and defect identification across whole-station packages, ensuring compliance with Ontario building codes and project standards. The successful candidate will focus on reviewing multidisciplinary designs, identifying deficiencies, and providing structured feedback to stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Design Manager, you will be the pivot point for design integrity and inter-agency coordination. Your core accountabilities include:

  • Design Conformance: Conduct comprehensive reviews of station and guideway design packages (including reports, drawings, and models) to ensure 100% alignment with Project Agreement requirements and interface documents.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and delegate review responsibilities across the project team, ensuring all technical disciplines are synchronized.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Partner with the Contracting Authority to develop, maintain, and prioritize a rigorous review schedule.
  • Session Management: Lead and organize design review sessions using Bluebeam, managing distribution lists and collaborative mark-ups.
  • Reporting & Insights: Brief Project Engineering and Interface Management on critical findings, maintain progress reports, and prepare formal Review Comments Sheets.

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure, transit, or complex building projects
  • Strong civil and building design background
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing multidisciplinary station or transportation-hub designs
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code (critical requirement)
  • Experience interpreting BIM models in Autodesk ACC
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam for design review and markups
  • Strong written communication skills for technical review comments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with civil partners on this specific project (asset, not mandatory)
  • Rail or transit infrastructure experience
  • International transportation-hub design experience (must demonstrate ability to apply Ontario code requirements)
  • Experience with rail-system infrastructure and station-level integration

 

Expected Compensation Range:
50K-110K The final compensation offered will be determined based on the candidate’s level of experience, skills, and qualifications, in compliance with applicable pay transparency requirements. 

Canadian Experience Requirement:
No Canadian work experience is required for this position. Candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of previous Canadian experience.
